Six Simple Steps to keep your Mind Sharp!

“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

If you meditate your brain changes so you can perform better.

Research using neuro-imaging technology has shown that meditation techniques can promote significant changes in brain areas associated with concentration. *

In the past,  it was always assumed that extensive training was required to achieve this effect. So for those who would like to boost your cognitive abilities, without the monk-like discipline, time commitment, and cost; this information is so timely!!

Psychologists studying the effects of a meditation technique known as “mindfulness ” found that meditation-trained participants showed a significant improvement in their critical cognitive skills (and performed significantly higher in cognitive tests than a control group) after only four days of training for only 20 minutes each day. They got smarter and more efficient!!

“In the behavioral test results, what we are seeing is something that is somewhat comparable to results that have been documented after far more extensive training,” said Fadel Zeidan, a post-doctoral researcher at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and a former doctoral student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where the research was conducted.

“Simply stated, the profound improvements that we found after just 4 days of meditation training– are really surprising,” Zeidan noted. “It goes to show that the mind is, in fact, easily changeable and highly influenced, especially by meditation.”

The meditation training involved in the study was an abbreviated “mindfulness” training regime modeled on basic “Shamatha skills” from a Buddhist meditation tradition, conducted by a trained facilitator.

“The simple process of focusing on the breath in a relaxed manner, in a way that teaches you to regulate your emotions by raising one’s awareness of mental processes as they’re happening is like working out a bicep, but you are doing it to your brain. Mindfulness meditation teaches you to release sensory events that would easily distract, whether it is your own thoughts or an external noise, in an emotion-regulating fashion. This can lead to better, more efficient performance on the intended task.”

“This kind of training seems to prepare the mind for activity, but it’s not necessarily permanent,” Zeidan cautions. “This doesn’t mean that you meditate for four days and you’re done – you need to keep practicing.”

One of the best known and most respected Zen masters,  Thich Nhat Hanh, has been my teacher of Mindfulness!

I teach a process that allows you to get more done based on Mindfulness Teachings.
Basic Model:  Six Simple Steps to keep your Mind Sharp!

Doing this allows you to be more effective and bring your complete attention to a project before you begin it! (total time 1-3 minutes)
1. allow your body to completely  relax
2. close your eyes
3. simply focus on the flow of your breath occurring at the tip of their nose.
4. If a random thought arise,  notice and acknowledge the thought and simply let ‘it’ go by bringing the attention back to the sensations of the breath.”
5.Open your eyes and begin the project.  (Work,  working out, and just about anything!)
6. Notice the cooler air coming in each breath and warmed air leaving periodically through the project!
Subsequent training builds on this basic model. You can learn  physical awareness, focus, and mindfulness with regard to distraction.
Set aside 20 minutes every day for a quiet Mind Meditation.

*This study appears in the April 2 issue of Consciousness and Cognition. Zeidan’s co-authors are Susan K. Johnson, Zhanna David and Paula Goolkasian from the Department of Psychology at UNC Charlotte, and Bruce J. Diamond from William Patterson University. The research was also part of Zeidan’s doctoral dissertation. The research was presented at the Cognitive Neuroscience Society’s annual meeting in Montreal.

“Findings like these suggest that meditation’s benefits may not require extensive training to be realized, and that meditation’s first benefits may be associated with increasing the ability to sustain attention,” Zeidan said.

“Further study is warranted,” he stressed, noting that brain imaging studies would be helpful in confirming the brain changes that the behavioral tests seem to indicate, “but this seems to be strong evidence for the idea that we may be able to modify our own minds to improve our cognitive processing – most importantly in the ability to sustain attention and vigilance – within a week’s time.”

1.1.11 Happy New Age!

“The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you’ve got to have a what-the-hell attitude.”
Julia Child

DreamBlogger – Ken Sheetz

Confession:  For a guy who runs a social media company I’ve not been very social.  But I found my groove at the groovy 1.1.11 Butterfly Meditation DreamShield event at diva Laura De Leon’s amazing home with her amazing hubby Bob Jenkis, who is one of Hollywood’s top editors, and the help of the always playful Dr. Sarah Larsen.

At the global 10.10.10 event I spent the better part of my time hiding behind the camera and in my hotel room running the 24 hour webcast on my Mac.   But 1.1.11 was different.  I am stepping up into my role as a spiritual leader and visionary, shy though I still am.

To help me step up, Laura did some amazing healing on me, one where I could see in my mind’s eye that she removed a dragon of red energy that was wrapped around my core.  Visit Laura at MysticMuse.com And with Sarah at Dr.SarahLarsen.com, who guides me to be more social almost daily.  Add to that since Mt. Shasta, with Marta and Mica where we’ve held a place of love that we are keeping up through the  solar eclipse on 1.4.11 and beyond.

More prep, Sarah and I went on a huge shopping trip on 12/31/11 and gathered the list of stuff for the 1.1.11 party only to learn at the cashiers they did not take Visa, the card my roomie loaned me, and Sarah had forgotten her wallet.  Costco was kind enough to put our cart in storage and we headed to Laura’s for a rehearsal and we swung back for the stuff later and I kept my cool.

This may not sound like a big deal. But my style of work as a producer, and former real estate developer who built Oprah’s studios, is all about precision through plans, schedules and budgets. So in the past this Costco hiccup would have freaked me out.  Instead, I enjoyed the comedy and beauty of the coming together of all this.  Sarah is about going with the flow and Laura is a meticulous performer.  So we made a great team for this important event.  It was such an honor to stand beside a great performer and healer like Laura De Leon, the band and Sarah.  There no more hiding in the New Age.

Here’s a taste of the amazing Butterfly meditation party at Casa De Leon.

And let me share the vision I had during the meditation and a promise to share in the moment for the next event tomorrow, the solar flare meditation on 1.4.11, we formed a new universe with the power of the Infinity Cookies for our friends here on earth to explore and enjoy. 1.1.11 was the birth of the Butterfly Universe!

Here’s the recipe for the heavenly DreamShield Infinity cookies that came from the Celestials.  Make some of your own and grow the Butterfly Universe!  Special thanks to Nadia Avalero for cooking this up based on the recipe from above.

Angels Want to Party

“The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax.” – Albert Einstein

DreamBlogger – Ken Sheetz

I finished the previous blog post at exactly midnight and got into bed hoping for a good night’s sleep as tomorrow is the Butterfly Meditation.  But I was woken at 2:22 AM to do a “data transmission” meditation.  Seems we mortals don’t need as much sleep in the New Age.

This is a night photo of LA from space that I was directed to post for you, dear reader.  See the Butterfly?

I thought the name for our meditation came to our team because of the cocoon to butterfly thing. Old age to New age stuff. But angels work on many levels and dimensions at once.  And so I now know we picked the butterfly name for today’s planetary meditation because there’s huge quantum physics are work here to shift us into a gentle 2012.  We are being given the tools to reshape reality through quantum physics and raising our vibrational frequency.

Through Dr. Sarah Larsen and an amazing 6 hour physics video she armed me with, I am up to date and the solution to Einstein’s unified field theory and how its been totally worked out by today’s brilliant scientists.

You’ve not seen or heard much of this in mainstream media because they have not woken up yet to how what infinite vast beings we really are and how interconnected we all really are.

Long and short of it is that every person has trillion of atoms that they are made of and at the center of each of a black hole. We are literally flicker in and out of existence millions of time per second, at the speed of light. Considering that film created the illusion of reality at 24 flickers per second, imagine how tiny of a fraction of the universe we really only see… so far. Watch, these science people, they tell it way better than me.

So the Butterfly Meditation all fit together now. We are infinite beings the are the event horizon for the infinite large outside us and infinite small within, all of us butterflies.

OK, last thing, before I go back to bed if the Celestials guiding DreamShield will let me sleep. 2011 is the year we will solve all the programs used to scramble earth’s chakras. All the programs can be undone and are hidden in ancient myths. Put into our consciousness for this work. After half an hour of meditation where my eagle-self soared over the Middle East, for what I thought was a meditation on peace.  Instead I was given this info by our team guide Ramses who been blowing my mind since guiding the meditation for Mt. Shasta in the pyramid guided by Sarah Wellborne.

Rames, who speaks to me as a great father figure, tells us the real Tower of Babel was in Brazil and was a space elevator, a way people on earth got off world. This was millions of years ago when we were given the keys to some primitive ships to explore our solar system by the ancients who helped shape our race’s DNA.  But we showed we deemed not ready and the space elevator was dismantled and our chakras were all scrambled to give us time to evolve to where we are right now, on the threshold of manifesting a better tomorrow.  This ancient tale eventually became the Bible, story of the Tower of Babel.

We’ve learned from cracking the Merlin code on the Mt. Shasta mission, the head charkra, that we must find counter codes to the above. I’ll leave that to the team. But once we crack it we will have better communication with the angels and the celestial beings guiding the work of a gentle 2012.

Night. Sorry for any typos. I’ll fix them when I am awake.  Over out.

A Cool Change New Year’s Eve Meditation

Be at war with yourself your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each New Year find you a better man. – Benjamin Franklin

1/1/11 Updated 11/10/12

Saddest update ever.  After a sudden battle with Cancer DreamShield booster Bradley Quick passed on 10.22.12.  Here this the link to the story of my Uturn on the road to Antarctica 12.12.12 to see him one last time before he transitioned to the higher realms.  Bradley is not gone, he’s just made a cool change.

Follow Bradley’s lead.  Support the coolest meditation ever.  This older post appearing on page 1 on Google.  A message from Bradley:)

From 1/1/11

What a lovely day it’s been today preparing for the Butterfly Meditation tomorrow at Laura De Leon’s lovely home and with Dr. Sarah Larsen, for the New Year’s Day DreamShield Butterfly Meditation.  As I look back on how 2010 unfolded its like reading a great novel.

2010 began with the economy worsening and feelings of great insecurity for us all.  I was low on cash and stranded in New Mexico with my roommate’s family.  I was alone and miserable over losing my home, my car, my stuff and my dog in 2009.  Yet I was oddly happy.

How could I be happy having lost everything in the world, stuck in New Mexico painting my then roomate’s house for free that did not belong to me while not being able to afford being home with my family?  The answer is that I had learned somehow through all this that my happiness lay within me and not in external things.   As I got back to LA I began in earnest to do my best to rebuild my life.  My roommate had to give up on Hollywood for a while and regroup in New Mexico.  And after a rocky sudden departure that nearly left me homeless I ended up on the doorstep of Bradley Quick and his Cool Change Foundation.

In return for couch surfing for two weeks I’d agreed to social media for Bradley, a motivational speaker and radio talk show host that uses media to battle substance abuse.  The cause caught fire in my heart and my little enterprise BuzzBroz donated a dozen videos when I’d only promised 2.  When my two weeks was up and I was getting ready to leave Bradley asked me to extend the arrangement until I whenever I felt it had run its course.  That was – 10 months, 70 videos, 5,000 twitter followers, a LiveStream Channel, A Facebok fan page and half a million YouTube views for the Cool Change Foundation – ago.

With Bradley every day is an adventure as he endeavors to get the word out to more and more people via BuzzBroz.  He’s going to be broadcasting live 5 days a week in early 2011 and it’s amazing to watch and help him put that together.

Dr. Sarah Laren and Crystal, host of the 3/13/11 Oneness Meditation

And its through Bradley’s love and support I have come to find my passion and purpose in life with DreamShield.  All roads on this project lead back to Bradley’s unselfish introductions in return for all the help I have donated to his charity.  The chain went like this Bradley introduces me to Dorothy Donahue, Filippo Voltaggio and Connie Miller.  This leads to my trip to Italy in May and my angel activation in the first DreamShield by the healer Guila at Santa Maria Del Sole.  On return to the US I talk to Barnet Bain, Sarah Larsen, Mica Monet and Ramon Goves, who I met via Dorothy and Fillipo and they convince me to share the vision of a gentle 2012 and the mission to honor the DreamShield on 10/10/10.  A global web event with, Spirit Recovery, a sponsor out of Nashville, Lee McCormick, who I also met via Bradley lets DreamShield, only 3 months old be seen across the world in all 24 times zones with live events in Nashville, LA, Greece and Itlay broadcast on YouTube and LiveStream.  The stars are the limit for this work for 2012 and beyond.

Ken Sheetz and Laura De Leon

Funny thing is that I was thinking on 10/10/10 that this was end of DreamShield until 11/11/11 and 12/12/12 when I am further activated via lunch meeting with Isabella Stoloff that booms into a 11/1/10 mediation followed by a huge slate of planetary meditations.  And then Dr. Sarah Larsen emerges as a key partner in the DreamShield work and brings in so many people here in the city of angels for the mission.  The scope and majesty of the work is beyond anything I expected but involves extensive travel I had not budgeted for and my cash runs low.  And again Bradley steps up to lend a financial hand, keeping the work alive, me fed and working.

The year ends with planetary meditations to reduce earthquakes, deflect asteroids and healing of the ozone layer and preparations for an amazing 1/1/11 New Year’s Day meditation hosted by singer Laura De Leon at her lovely home with amazing husband Bob and the wonderful Dr. Larsen and I helping her pull it together.

In 2011 I resolve to continue to donate a big chunk of time to Bradley’s charity with the majority of my time going that with the DreamShield.  But Bradley’s loves and supports the work because what could be a cooler change for his Cool Change Foundation than the change DreamShield that he helped start is bring about for a gentle 2012?

Stormy Road to Mt. Shasta Turns Sunny

“Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn’t, it is of no use.”  – Carlos Castandea

DreamBlogger Ken Sheetz, AKA “Eagliscious”

Marta, Dr. Sarah Larsen, Mica Monet and little Cloe

Only a little over a month ago I was at Mt. Shasta with a sweet Hollywood producing couple Cali and Chris Rosen to meet 10/10/10 sponsor Lee McCormick.  Until Lee’s timely invite I’d only heard of Shasta as a soda pop.  Now, here I was on December 19th tossing my stuff into Dr. Sarah Larsen’s minivan, on my way to American spiritual mecca Mt. Shasta to pop some power into the DreamShield.

Our planetary Mt. Shasta mission: Heal the ozone layer and start the battle to rescue humankind from cancer.  A cancer that is at this very moment threatening to kill my father and a close family member of Sarah Larsen’s.

It is raining heavily as I hop into the van with Mica Monet, an amazing hypnotherapist and healer who can channel higher powers.  I am happy as this gives our team the advantage of direct spiritual communications for this Mt. Shasta healing journey.  As I take the wheel I am concerned that this Shasta trip does not coincide to the binary dates that have become the pattern of the events.  Dr. Larsen, a palm reader and holistic doctor, had convinced me the trip was a must based on the coinciding of the lunar eclipse and winter solstice, but I am worried about driving in such horrible weather.

The psychic Mica Monet sits up front beside me.  Mica is, like so many people I meet in this work, male and female alike, is as beautiful on the inside as the outside. Mica’s serene beauty takes my mind off the road and relaxes me a bit.

Earlier that day I opened the energy to power this mission to Mt. Shasta in the middle of a rain storm in NoHo park, rain that was flooding the coastal areas of California.

Mica meditated that the storms would clear and, sure enough, after we crossed the mountains of Simi valley the rain became less, and with the help of a new windshield wiper I purchased from a gas station along the way, we had clear road vision for the vision work ahead.

Mica plays navigator for this trip. As the road spins out before us I recall missions in deep space where I am captain of a planetary scale spaceship and she my navigator.  Mica is planning to do a lot of inner child work and self love development in her practice in 2011.  So she chose to warm our 4 person dream team up with a meditation on what we most loved about our self.

My dear father was drill sergeant in the Korean War.  His lack a father from the age of 8 in his life meant my dad had learned all his nurturing skills from the U.S. Army.  What a drill sergeant does to make a obedient solider is to tear them apart in boot camp, making my childhood 21 year-long boot camp.  So I welcomed Mica’s exercise as she started off with, “I love my big beautiful brown eyes.”

“I love my nose,” softly offered the sweet and shy Mexican American Marta, a client of Dr. Larsen’s, from the back seat.

“I love how I love life,” said Dr. Larsen, grateful for Mica’s love meditation.

Now it was my turn and I was stumped.  But everyone waited patiently.  As a child my father told me I had “fat ugly lips” so I finally started with, “I love my full and sensuous lips.”  Immediately I felt my spirit brighten and the inner child within me smile.

Sarah Larsen, giving up time to be with her family for the holidays to do this vital planetary healing work, chimed in, “I love the beautiful family I’ve created with Greg where we all live in bliss.”

On and on for the first hour of the 9 hour trip we spoke of what we each love about ourselves. And with each answer became funnier and funnier until we were all laughing hysterically.

My last self-love was for an amazing a scalp condition that causes my hair to fall out in clumps when stressed.  The hair then grows back white.  My head’s been doing this natural tattoo work for the past dozen years.  In the past I’ve masked the calico of white patches with hair dye.   But every summer I take a break from the hair dying and check what patterns emerge on my head.

7 years ago when I moved from Chicago I discovered a map of North and South America.  I’ve lost the picture or I’d share it with you here.  I had no idea what to make of that and showed it to my brother who will tell you, photo or no, I am not making any of this up.

So here I am 7 years later in a minivan with three angelic DreamShield planetary healers on a mission thankful for a scalp condition I found embarrassing for a dozen year saying, “I love the eagle shaped hair pattern on my head.  People spend fortunes for tattoos and here I grew my own!”

The ladies had me turn on the minivan’s dome light to show them the eagle made of hair.  Their giggles prompted me to add. “I’m eaglicious!”

The trip quickly passed with fun and work on self-love and self discovery.  We did one of my favorite exercises from SoulDrama where you tell you childhood superhero and then have that hero speak about how they help you even today to achieve things and protect you.  Mine is Superman, Sarah’s is Wonder Woman along with Marta and Mica.  Mica rethought and made her hero the Bionic Woman.

Eventually Dr. Larsen’s dream team of super heroes got drowsy at the end of the 9 hour ride.  Mica and Marta were sound asleep as we hit a blizzard about an hour out from Mt Shasta City.  But I am from the midwest where snow driving is a normal thing.  Now, after a stressful last hour filled, we arrive safe and sound in the winter wonderland of Mt. Shasta at 6 AM as the sky was just getting light.

After a breakfast at the Black Bear Cafe we set off to get into our rooms and join with the other amazing members of the dream team that have journeyed from as far off as Arkansas for this vital mission to heal the ozone layer and battle cancer.
